My return...lets see how it goes.

It has been some time since I have recorded my thoughts on this blog, and for now, I am back.  You may be wondering why?  What inspired me to come back to my computer and do this again.  There are a couple of reasons and I’ll get to all of them.

First of all, right now I am sitting with my laptop with the Seahawk football game on.  And I don’t want to watch the game.  It doesn’t help that the Seahawks have not looked good at all this year, but that is not the primary reason (I’m still in love with Washington Husky football and the Seahawks have more wins then them).  I am tired of football and everyday, and I am not exaggerating, I like the game of football less and less.  No joke, everyday.

The game itself is contrived and arbitrary.  Unlike sports like soccer and baseball, the games rules are so complex and complicated.  In baseball, the pitcher throws the ball and the batter tries to hit it.  If he hits it, the players behind the pitcher try to catch it before it hits the ground or by fielding the ball and throwing the batter out at first base.  The core of football is fine.  It’s running, throwing and catching.  But there are so many rules and things like ball placement that are so arbitrary that I don’t like the game.  Not that baseball is without its flaws though.  Did you know that there is not actually a rule in MLB’s rule book that defines what a check swing is?  That’s dumb.

Plus football is too barbaric, testosterone filled and “manly.”  Every game players go out to receive and deliver hits that could paralyze or kill a man.

Also, I hate the hype that the NFL receives.  It upsets me to think that there are people that watch ESPN’s NFL Live in April.  I guess some people just have to know who will be the third string quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.  Now the decision to run NFL Live all year long falls on ESPN and that is another topic.  (Note: I do not like ESPN, but accept it because I am a sports fan.)  (Another note: ESPN does make entertaining commercials).  The NFL is the only sport or league that gets its own show year round on ESPN.  Baseball tonight is not on year round and what ever the NBA show is, they don’t either even though their season is less than three weeks away!

Finally, I despise many of the NFL athletes and coaches.  For example, if you didn’t know any better, when watching Mike Holmgrem during a Seahawk game you might assume his head set is actually hooked up to JFK’s 1962 Oval Office telephone and his laminated play list is actually a list of Cold War secrets and possible nuclear weapons sites in the Soviet Union.  It’s Matt Hasselbeck.

Does anyone remember that Ray Lewis once killed a guy?  Not ringing a bell?  2000...No they played in the 2001 Super Bowl....yeah he was MVP.  I can understand how it would slip your mind.  Do the initials O.J. mean anything to you?

Sorry, that last one is over the line, but think about, he settled in court to avoid a murder charge.  Murder!  That’s scary and really sad.  Interesting fact, Lewis’s fine of $250,000 was half that of Bill Belichick’s fine for “spygate.”  Difference commissioners I know, but still.  One is murder and the other is cheating in a game.

All right, sports fans.  All this writing about such negative subjects has got my blood boiling and I’m tired of that, so let’s change the subject and get to another reason why I’m back to the blog.

I won both of my head-to-head fantasy baseball leagues this year.  No, that’s not it, but I’m pretty impressed with myself.  And since I am not playing fantasy football this year I’m holding on to my fantasy baseball titles until fantasy basketball starts.

Despite their first round playoff loss I want to give props to the Milwaukee Brewers.  It’s no longer a positive story because they have been eliminated, but I am very happy that they made the playoffs.  And the story of CC Sabathia’s three starts in the final week of the season is tremendous.  Since coming over to the Brewers he has been everything they could have ever wanted and in the final week he cements himself the in Brewer history.  Congratulations Brewers.

This next story is about learning.  USC floundered again at Oregon State a couple of weekends ago and suffered their first loss of the year.  This is not a new story.  The last two seasons USC has dropped a game as a huge favorite.  Last year it was 40 point underdog Stanford and, for the second time, Oregon State pulled a fast one on the Trojans in Corvallis.  Immediately after the loss the Trojans fell seven or eight spots in the polls and it is believed that there national title hopes were dashed.  Despite their loss, the Trojans still make it to the Rose Bowl and crush their opponent.  And after that definitive victory they are usually believed to be one the best two teams in the country.  Here is the lesson to be learned.  If USC finishes the season with only one loss they should play in the title game.  And I say this because if you don’t, they will crush some other outclassed opponent in the Rose Bowl and once again, we will wish they would have played in the BCS National Championship Game.  Let’s learn our lesson this time.  USC is one of the best two teams in the country and deserves to be in the championship.  Hopefully others will see the light.

All right, that’s all I have for now.  I should be back soon.
